Stunning Modern Villa in Los Angeles

46.000.000€ €

High above Sunset Boulevard, this ultra-modern luxury house was built on a 28,033-square-foot lot in a fairly dense area with large homes located quite close to each other. The architect says that the biggest challenge of the project was “essentially how to fit a three-story house into a one-story community.” The main level was dropped by eight feet to allow for the increase in floor area and keep the entire house within the required sixteen-foot height. The entry has a basalt rotunda that separates the house from the street and a two-story water wall spilling into a water garden, as well as an infinity edge swimming pool facing spectacular views of the city. The form of the pool is generated by the site contours and the maximum height allowed above grade and it is pushed to the extremities of the lot to increase the buildable area, as well as the garden spaces. The upper level is rotated ninety degrees as compared to the main floor in order to decrease visibility from the street and allowing the creation of a rooftop deck on the otherwise green roof. The master bedroom is cantilevered above the garden, creating a covered patio space below. The architect states, “The concept for living spaces is a glass pavilion with minimal walls, allowing a direct visual connection between the entry water garden and the pool beyond.” The basement garage area includes a car display space, a bar, a golf simulation room, and a cigar patio. It also houses a media room, a lounge, a gym, staff quarters, and a kitchen, as well as a wellness area with a float tank and hydro-tub. Exteriors and interior walls of the house are in Bardiglio marble. Black basalt is also employed inside. Quartzite and oak, as well as Palladio gray sandstone, are also part of the interior material palette.
